Arkansas' first test of the Mike Anderson era proved to be no test at all as the host Razorbacks pounded defending Summit League champion Oakland 91-68 on Wednesday.
The Razorbacks (2-0) used Anderson's trademark frenetic style to force the tempo and race to a 55-27 halftime lead. They cooled off somewhat in the second half, but the Golden Grizzlies (0-2) weren't able to get any closer than 66-46.
Arkansas forward Marshawn Powell continued his blistering start. After going 6-for-8 in the season-opening victory over USC Upstate, Powell hit all eight of his shots in the first half Wednesday, scoring 18 of his team-high 20 before halftime to lead six Razorbacks in double figures.
The Razorbacks also did a better job of taking care of the ball. After committing 23 turnovers in the opener, they limited it to 11 Wednesday.
Travis Bader led Oakland with 21 points - all on 3-pointers - and Drew Valentine added 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Arkansas went 8-for-20 from 3-point range, extending its streak of consecutive games with at least one 3-pointer made to 740 dating to 1989. The Razorbacks have failed to a make a 3-pointer in only six of their 813 games since the 3-point shot was added to college basketball.
