Alabama used stingy defense and a balanced attack to beat Oakland 74-57 win on Monday.
The Tide (2-0) choked Oakland’s perimeter offense, limiting the Golden Grizzlies to only 40 percent from the floor and just 4 of 18 on 3-pointers. Alabama raced to a 41-30 halftime lead and never allowed Oakland to get any second-half momentum.
Alabama placed four scorers in double figures: JaMychal Green with 18, Trevor Relevord with 14, Tony Mitchell with 12 and reserve Trevor Lacey with 10. Mitchell had a team-high nine rebounds, falling one short of his second double-double.
Oakland (0-1), the two-time Summit League champion, got 16 points from Reggie Hamilton and 11 points and six rebounds from Drew Valentine.
It was the first meeting between the two teams. Alabama improved its home winning streak to 22 games, sixth longest in the nation.
