C.J. Harris scored a game-high 20 points and Wake Forest took advantage of Loyola-Maryland foul trouble and held on for a 75-63 victory over the visiting Greyhounds on Friday.
Travis McKie, coming off a double-double performance in an exhibition win over Ferrum, finished with 19 points and four rebounds for Wake Forest, which led by as many as 11 in the first half before taking a 36-31 lead into halftime.
Loyola-Maryland erased the deficit in the second half and tied it at 48 at the midway point before the fouls began to pile up.
Dylon Cormier, who led the Greyhounds (0-1) with 13 points - all in the first half - fouled out with 8:56 left. From there, the Demon Deacons (1-0) went on a 7-0 run and led the rest of the way.
The Greyhounds finished with 29 fouls and had two players foul out.
Wake Forest improved to 17-1 in its last 18 season openers despite shooting 19-for-45 from the free-throw line.
The Greyhounds, who fell to 2-2 all-time against the Demon Deacons, converted only 1-of-11 3-point attempts and had 18 turnovers. Shane Walker and Justin Drummond had 12 points apiece for Loyola-Maryland.
