SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Brady Morningstar scored 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Thomas Robinson collected 12 points and 14 rebounds as No. 1 seed Kansas advanced to the Elite Eight with a 77-57 victory over No. 12 seed Richmond on Friday.
Marcus Morris added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Jayhawks (35-2), who will play either Virginia Commonwealth or Florida State in the Southwest Regional final on Sunday.
After struggling in the first half against both Boston University and Illinois last week, Kansas did not mess around against the Spiders, jumping out to a 35-11 lead after Morningstar drained a jumper with 4:43 left in the first half.
The Jayhawks shot 52 percent (16 of 31) in the opening half to take a 41-22 lead into the break.
Richmond never got closer than 15 points in the second half, falling quietly in the school’s first appearance in a regional semifinal since 1988.
Justin Harper led the Spiders (29-8) with 22 points and nine rebounds.
