TULSA, Okla. – Marcus Morris collected 16 points and nine rebounds, and twin brother Markieff added 15 points and eight boards as No. 1 seed Kansas broke it open in the second half and cruised past No. 16 seed Boston University 72-53 in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Friday.
Brady Morningstar had 13 points for the Jayhawks (33-2), who will face Illinois on Sunday in the Round of 32.
Kansas was also a No. 1 seed last season when it was shocked by Northern Iowa in the third round.
The Terriers stuck around in the first half thanks to 15 points from John Holland and a defensive scheme that confounded the Jayhawks by switching between zone and man-to-man. Marcus Morris paced Kansas with 10 points and seven rebounds, and knocked down a jumper to send his team into the locker room up 33-29.
Boston University was still within six points at 47-41 midway through the second half before the Jayhawks knocked down four 3-pointers during an 18-4 burst over the next five minutes to pull away.
Holland finished with 19 points for the Terriers (21-14).
