Demonte Harper drained a 3-pointer with 4.6 seconds left to lift No. 13 seed Morehead State to a 62-61 victory over No. 4 seed Louisville in the second round of the NCAA tournament in Denver on Thursday.
Terrance Hill scored 23 points and Kenneth Faried collected 12 points and 17 rebounds for the Eagles (25-9), who will play Richmond in the third round on Saturday. Faried also blocked Mike Marra's 3-point attempt as time expired.
Trailing by two points with 30 seconds left, Morehead State cleared out with Harper at the top of the key. The senior guard faked like he would go around a screen and drive, instead raising up and hitting his lone 3-pointer of the game to secure the win.
The Eagles got a boost midway through the second half when Louisville star Preston Knowles went down with a sprained toe. Morehead State went on a 13-4 run from there, pushing the lead to 57-52 when Hill knocked down a 3-pointer with 5:24 left.
Louisville (25-10) regrouped, locking down on the defensive end to go back up by as much as 61-57 in the final minutes. Elisha Justice had a chance to seal it at the free-throw line for the Cardinals but missed the front end of a one-and-one with 31 seconds left, opening the door for Harper.
