Seniors JaJuan Johnson and E'Twaun Moore had big nights in their final home game, and No. 6 Purdue continued its late-season surge with a 75-67 win over visiting Illinois on Tuesday.
Johnson scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds, leading the Boilermakers (25-5, 14-3 Big Ten) to their seventh straight win and keeping them in the discussion for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Purdue overcame 18 points from Illinois star Demetri McCamey and got a clutch 3-pointer late from Moore to hold off the Illini (18-12, 8-9 Big Ten), who have lost three of four and sit squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble.
Illinois trimmed Purdue's lead to 67-64 with two minutes to play, before Johnson hit consecutive free throws and Moore hit a deep 3-pointer to put the Boilermakers in control, up eight, with 50 seconds to play. Moore finished with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, five rebounds and five assists.
Purdue improved to 15-0 at home, its first undefeated home mark since 1968-69.
The Boilermakers close the regular season at Iowa on Saturday. Illinois hosts Indiana to end its regular season on Saturday.
