Jacob Pullen scored a career-high 38 points, leading host Kansas State to a shocking 84-68 upset of No. 1 Kansas on Monday.

The Wildcats (19-9, 5-6 Big 12) got off to a hot start, with Pullen scoring 22 of his points in the first half. Kansas State led by nine at half and extended its lead to 18 with 10 minutes to play.

The Jayhawks (24-2, 9-2 Big 12) moved atop the polls Monday, only hours before becoming the second No. 1 team to lose in the last three days. Ohio State lost at Wisconsin on Saturday. Kansas now trails Texas by two games in the Big 12 standings.

The Wildcats, who started the season in the top 5, have struggled on and off the court, but put together an inspired performance and gave a significant boost to their postseason aspirations with their fourth win over a top-ranked team.

Rodney McGruder and Jordan Henriquez-Roberts came up with key baskets to answer every Kansas run and helped the Wildcats avenge a 24-point loss to the Jayhawks on Jan. 29.

Tyrel Reed led Kansas with 14 points. The Jayhawks’ Morris twins, Marcus and Markieff, combined for only 16 points.
