Brad Wanamaker scored 21 points and Nasir Robinson added 15 as No. 4 Pittsburgh stayed perfect on the road with a 57-54 victory over No. 10 Villanova on Saturday.
The Panthers (23-2, 11-1 Big East), who were playing without leading scorer Ashton Gibbs because of a knee injury, picked up their fourth straight win and maintained a 1½-game lead over Notre Dame in the Big East.
Mouphtaou Yarou collected 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats (19-6, 7-5), who had their 46-game winning streak at The Pavilion come to an end. Villanova has dropped two straight and four of six, and was playing without senior guard Corey Stokes, who averages 14.6 points, because of injury.
The Wildcats took a 27-23 lead into the break and were still up 32-27 when Isaiah Armwood was called for a technical foul when he appeared to punch Robinson.
Gilbert Brown hit both technical free throws to spark a 15-2 burst over the next four minutes. Pittsburgh would stretch the lead to 52-41 with 5:12 left before Villanova got back into it with an 8-0 run to cut it to a three-point deficit.
The Wildcats had a chance to force overtime but Dominic Cheek missed a 3-point attempt with four seconds left.
