Jeremy Hazell scored 19 points to become the fourth player in Seton Hall history to reach 2,000 as the visiting Pirates took down rival Rutgers 69-64 on Saturday.
Jordan Theodore had 18 points, six assists and four rebounds, and Herb Pope finished with 12 points and six boards for Seton Hall (11-14, 5-8 Big East), which narrowly missed a win over No. 7 Connecticut in their last game.
Jonathan Mitchell scored 24 points, including three 3-pointers in the final 1:21, for the Scarlet Knights (13-12, 4-9).
Seton Hall forced 10 turnovers and held Rutgers to 36 percent shooting from the field en route to a 34-27 lead at the break. Theodore came off the bench to score 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
The Scarlet Knights scored the first eight points of the second half to take a brief 35-34 lead before Seton Hall used a 12-2 spurt over the next five minutes to regain control.
Rutgers would pull to within a point as Mitchell caught fire late in the half, but Theodore responded with a layup and Jeff Robinson knocked down a 3-pointer to keep Seton Hall on top.
Theodore was 7 for 9 from the field as the Pirates shot 50 percent.
Hazell has 2,005 career points, and joined Terry Dehere (2,494), Nick Werkman (2,273) and Greg Tynes (2,059) in the 2,000-point club.
