Malcolm Grant scored 15 points and Reggie Johnson had nine points and 10 rebounds as host Miami held off Georgia Tech 59-57 on Thursday.
Garrius Adams scored 11 for the Hurricanes (13-9, 2-6 ACC), who snapped a four-game slide.
Glen Rice Jr. finished with 28 points and Iman Shumpert scored 17 for Georgia Tech (10-11, 3-5), which shot 27 percent from the field.
Rice scored 16 points in 12 minutes to pull the Yellow Jackets to within 56-51 with 1:40 left.
After Rion Brown snapped an eight-minute field goal drought for Miami to make it 58-51, Shumpert hit two free throws and tipped-in Rice’s miss before Mfon Udofia converted a layup to cut it to 58-57 with 21 seconds left.
The Yellow Jackets had a chance to win it, but Shumpert missed a 3-pointer with six seconds left.
Miami shot 57.1 percent in the first half and closed with a 9-1 burst to take a 31-21 edge into the locker room. That spurt carried over to the second half as the Hurricanes began with a 12-2 run, and eventually led 48-27 after a Johnson dunk with 13:39 left.
