Nolan Smith scored a game-high 22 points and No. 5 Duke led from start to finish as the Blue Devils rolled to a 92-78 Atlantic Coast Conference win over North Carolina State on Wednesday night in Raleigh, N.C.
Duke (17-1, 4-1 ACC), which led 42-28 at halftime, shot 50 percent in the opening 20 minutes while holding N.C. State (11-7, 1-3 ACC) to a frigid 22 percent clip. The Wolfpack crept to within five in the second half at 54-49 after a 15-4 run, but the Blue Devils countered with their own 14-3 spurt over the next 3:30 to put the game away.
Smith, who leads the ACC in scoring and assists, added six helpers as Duke shot 51 percent from the field for the game. Kyle Singler added 18 points and nine rebounds and Miles Plumlee came off the bench to contribute 13 points and nine rebounds. Miles' brother, Mason, had five blocked shots in the first half to set the tone for Duke’s tenacious defense.
N.C. State, which has lost three straight, was led by Tracy Smith’s 19 points. Scott Wood and Ryan Harrow added 15 each.
