Corey Stokes had a game-high 22 points as No. 7 Villanova used a two-man 3-point barrage to earn an 83-71 win over South Florida on Thursday.
Stokes, the team's leading scorer, made all five of his 3-point attempts to pace the Wildcats (13-1, 2-0 Big East). He and fellow guard Dominic Cheek (4-for-4) combined to hit all nine of Villanova's 3-pointers on the night as the Wildcats earned their eighth consecutive win.
Villanova needed a strong showing from beyond the arc to subdue the plucky Bulls (6-10, 0-3 Big East), who kept the deficit in single digits throughout the game. The Wildcats will find things much tougher from here on in, with four of their next seven games coming against ranked teams.
Cheek finished with 17 points on 6-of-6 shooting for Villanova, which shot 58.3 percent from the field while limiting South Florida to 41.5 percent. Maalik Wayns had 16 points and nine assists while Corey Fisher added 12 points and Antonio Pena chipped in with 11.
Augustus Gilchrist led the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulls. Shaun Noriega added 13 and Hugh Robertson had 11 in defeat.
