Oscar Bellfield came up big down the stretch to lead UNLV to a 63-59 non-conference victory at No. 11 Kansas State on Tuesday.
The Wildcats played without senior guard Jacob Pullen and senior forward Curtis Kelly. Pullen was suspended three games while the length of Kelly’s suspension has yet to be determined.
In a statement, the school said both players were being punished for receiving impermissible benefits in connection with the purchase of clothing at a local department store.
Bellfield buried a huge 3-pointer from the left wing with 1:09 to play to give the Rebels (11-2) a 59-54 lead. Bellfield went to the line and made a pair of key free throws with 11 seconds left to extend the Rebels’ lead to 63-57.
Tre’Von Willis scored 16 points, and Bellfield scored with 11 for UNLV.
Pullen is averaging 16.5 points and Kelly 10.3, which is 37 percent of Kansas State’s points.
Nick Russell scored 12 points for the Wildcats, who were 14 for 26 from the free throw line.
