John Shurna and Drew Crawford got hot from 3-point land, propelling Northwestern into the championship game of the Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival.
Shurna hit five 3-pointers and finished with 26 points, while Crawford had four 3-pointers and 25 points, as Northwestern topped St. Francis (N.Y.), 92-61, in the first game of the Holiday Festival in New York.
Northwestern (8-0) is off to its best start since 1993-94 and will face either St. John’s or Davidson in Tuesday’s final.
As a team, the Wildcats were 10-of-22 (45.5 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc and 34-of-66 (51.5 percent) from the field. Michael Thompson finished with 14 points, and JerShon Cobb added 11 points.
Northwestern held a 45-31 halftime lead, but the Terriers (6-4) opened the second half with a 7-0 run to cut the Wildcat lead to 45-38. Northwestern went on a 14-2 run between the 17:20 and 12:34 mark of the second half and put the game out of reach.
Dre Calloway led St. Francis with 14 points, and Akeem Bennett scored 11 points.
