George Washington used a tight defense to force 20 turnovers and defeat Oregon State 87-79 at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore., on Saturday night.
Oregon State (4-6) had one of the nation’s top turnover differentials in the country entering Saturday’s game, but couldn’t avoid miscues against George Washington, which scored 22 points off the Beavers’ errors.
Tony Taylor led the Colonials with 19 points, 11 assists and five rebounds.
Nemanja Mikic also scored 19 points for George Washington (4-5), which had four players in double figures and shot 54.4 percent from the field.
Jared Cunningham scored 21 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Beavers.
George Washington raced to a 13-point lead midway through the first half. Oregon State battled back to cut the deficit to 37-36 at halftime, but George Washington began the second half on an 8-0 run.
Oregon State again cut the lead to one with 8:29 left in the second half, but George Washington got eight second half points from Taylor to close out the game and avenge a 64-57 loss last season to Oregon State.
