Iman Shumpert led the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds as Georgia Tech held off Savannah State, 69-59, on Saturday.
Freshman Daniel Miller added 14 points and nine boards and Brian Oliver finished with 17 points for the Yellow Jackets (5-4), who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Georgia Tech led, 44-26, at the half thanks to a 23-2 burst through the middle part of the first half that turned a 12-10 lead into a 35-12 gap. Shumpert had 11 points during the spurt while Oliver added eight.
The Yellow Jackets were not quite as efficient after the break, allowing the Tigers to slowly climb back into the game.
Georgia Tech led by as much as 20 points early in the second, but Savannah State used a 13-0 run to pull within 51-44 with 12:26 remaining. The Yellow Jackets stretched it back out to 14 points before the Tigers made another run, getting as close as 63-57 with under a minute to go.
Jovonni Shuler led the charge with 26 points and eight boards for Savannah State (1-10), which has yet to beat a Division I school this season.
