Ahmad Starks missed a 3-pointer as time expired, and Oregon State dropped a 70-68 decision to Utah Valley Wednesday at Gil Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore.
Utah Valley’s Jordan Swarbrick broke a 68-68 stalemate with three seconds left when he sank a pair of free throws. The Wolverines (3-3) battled back from a seven-point halftime deficit, and led for much of the final 10 minutes of the seesaw contest.
The Beavers (3-3) trailed by as many as six after the final media timeout, but were in position to force overtime when Calvin Haynes scored with 10 seconds remaining.
Haynes led five Oregon State players to reach double figures with 15 points. Center Joe Burton had 10 points and nine rebounds before fouling out.
Starks finished with 12 points, including two 3-pointers.
The loss ended a two-game winning streak for Oregon State, which hits the road for its Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Challenge matchup with Colorado on Saturday.
