This time, the triple-digit score counted for Iowa.

The Hawkeyes overpowered SIU-Edwardsville 111-50 in action Friday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, matching the 111 put up by Iowa (3-3) during an exhibition game Nov. 7 against Illinois-Springfield.

SIU-Edwardsville (1-5) briefly hung on in the game’s first minute and a half, but Iowa soon swamped its competition thanks to 37-of-63 shooting (58.7 percent) from the field. The Hawkeyes fired in 10 3-pointers during the contest and forced 29 turnovers which led to 45 points.

Four of Iowa’s five starters scored it double figures, but the bench got plenty of action and played well, accounting for 58 points. Zach McCabe’s 16 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Melsahn Basabe and Eric May scored 13 points apiece for Iowa, and Basabe added eight rebounds. Matt Gatens and Branden Stubbs added 12 points, and Bryce Cartwright scored 11 points.

Cornelius Chatt, Anthony Mitchell and Abel Tillman all had eight points for SIUE, which returns home Sunday for a game against Morehead State. Iowa travels to Wake Forest on Wednesday for a matchup in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
