Northwestern narrowly escaped with a road win Wednesday when it defeated Texas-Pan American 77-71 in Edinburg, Texas.
Playing the first game in their newly renovated facility, the Broncos got within one point with 15:27 remaining, then used a seven-point run minutes later to make it 65-61 with six minutes left.
Northwestern guard Drew Crawford carried the Wildcats (2-0) through, scoring 22 points. John Shurma added 20.
Perry Petty finished 8-of-11 shooting to lead Texas-Pan American with 22 points. Brandon Provost scored 15 points, and Jared Maree added 11.
The Broncos fall to 0-3 on the season and will be back home Saturday to host Texas State.
The Wildcats won their opener at Northern Illinois by a score of 97-78 on Friday. Shurna scored 31 points in that game and now averages 25.5 per game.
Northwestern has yet to play a home game, and will return to Evanston, Ill., on Friday to host Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
