Vincent Council scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures as Providence College romped to an 87-52 victory over visiting Dartmouth on Saturday night in the season opener for both schools.
Gerard Coleman netted 17 points, Bryce Cotton scored 15 and Marshon Brooks contributed 13 as the Friars (1-0) had their way against the Big Green from the Ivy League.
Council and Coleman combined for 13 points as the Friars bolted out a 19-3 lead and never let up. Dartmouth didn't help itself with its frigid shooting, hitting 1 of 15 shots to open the game.
The Friars steadily pulled away until the lead reached 42-17 on a 3-pointer by Cotton. Council hit again from long range to send Providence into the locker room with a 46-21 cushion.
Providence blistered the nets by shooting 57 percent (33-for-58) from the floor while going 8-for-18 from 3-point range.
R.J. Griffin scored 12 points and Gediminas Bertasius added 10 for Dartmouth (0-1).
