Alex Oriakhi dominated the inside with 11 points and 18 rebounds and Kemba Walker finished with 18 points as Connecticut picked it up in the second half and ran away from Stony Brook, 79-52, on Friday.
Shabazz Napier added 12 points and Jeremy Lamb added 11 for the Huskies, who outrebounded the Seawolves 59-33.
UConn got off to a slow start, shooting just 36 percent (12-of-33) in the first half to hold a 39-31 edge at the break. Walker was just 2-of-9 for nine points before the half. But the Huskies picked it up in the second, using a 12-0 run to push the lead to 51-33 with 14:17 left. Walker capped that spurt with a fastbreak layup and UConn cruised from there.
The Huskies got 21 points from their bench in the second half and shot 46 percent (16-of-35) from the floor while holding Stony Brook to 15 percent (5-of-33).
Bryan Dougher led with 19 points and Chris Martin added 12 for the Seawolves.
