Jazz 97, Timberwolves 93: Paul Millsap scored 21 points and Al Jefferson had 20 points and 11 rebounds as visiting Utah dispatched of Minnesota despite nearly blowing a 15-point lead with under seven minutes left.

DeMarre Carroll scored 11 points as the Jazz overcame a 10-point first quarter to end a three-game road losing streak. Utah led 84-69 with 6:50 to play before the Timberwolves made a spirited run.

Derrick Williams had season-highs of 24 points and 16 rebounds and hit three free throws with 19.3 seconds left to push Minnesota within 93-91. Randy Foye made four consecutive free throws in the final 15.6 seconds to help Utah hold on.

Nikola Pekovic had 19 points and 13 rebounds, Ricky Rubio had 18 points and 10 assists and Luke Ridnour also scored 18 points for the Timberwolves, who lost for the 17th time in 21 games since losing All-Star Kevin Love with a broken hand.

Utah trailed 20-10 early in the second quarter before rattling off 14 consecutive points. The Jazz led 42-40 at halftime and took a five-point lead into the final stanza before taking a 15-point lead on a three-point play by Alec Burks.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Utah had a 54-30 edge in points in the paint. … The double-double was Williams’ fourth of the season. … Jazz swingman Gordon Hayward (shoulder) missed his 10th consecutive contest.
