Kevin Newman hit a solo homer and a two-run single Saturday to help the Pittsburgh Pirates pound the visiting Milwaukee Brewers 12-2 to give the teams a split through the first two games of a weekend series.

Starling Marte added a two-run triple and an RBI single, and Melky Cabrera hit a two-run homer for Pittsburgh.

Mike Moustakas and Yasmani Grandal each hit a solo homer for the Brewers.

Milwaukee shortstop Orlando Arcia was carted off in the eighth inning because of an unspecified injury following a collision with second baseman Keston Hiura as both went for a grounder.

Arcia was attended to for several minutes. He was sitting upright as he was driven off the field.

Pittsburgh left fielder Corey Dickerson left in the seventh because of what the team termed right groin discomfort after running to catch a ball in shallow left.

Pittsburgh starter Dario Agrazal (2-0), making his third major league start, pitched six innings, allowing two runs and five hits, with one strikeout and two walks.

Milwaukee starter Adrian Houser (2-3) lasted just four innings, giving up five runs and seven hits, with five strikeouts and three walks.

After a 2 1/2-hour rain delay at the start, Milwaukee took a 1-0 lead in the first on Moustakas' 25th homer.

Pittsburgh answered with a four-run first. Adam Frazier singled and Bryan Reynolds walked, with Frazier moving to third on Marte's double-play grounder. After Josh Bell walked, Colin Moran knocked in Frazier with a single. Dickerson's double drove in Bell, and Newman's two-run single made it 4-1.

The Brewers cut it to 4-2 in the third on Grandal's 19th homer.

Newman's sixth homer in the fourth pushed the Pirates' lead to 5-2.

In the sixth, Jose Osuna doubled to right with and moved to third on Frazier's groundout. Reynolds walked ahead of Marte's two-run triple to give the Pirates a 7-2 lead.

Marte added an RBI base hit in the eighth to make it 8-2. An out later, Moran's ground ball went for a two-run single and a 10-2 lead on the play where Arcia and Hiura collided. Cabrera followed with a two-run homer, his sixth home run of the season.
