Dodgers 9, Padres 8:
Andre Ethier drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth and Aaron Harang set a team record with nine consecutive strikeouts as the Dodgers became the first team in the majors with seven wins.

After Chase Headley hit a two-out, two-run homer off Kenley Jansen in the top of the ninth, Andrew Cashner walked the bases loaded before Joe Thatcher walked Ethier on four straight pitches.

Harang fell one strikeout short of the major league record of 10 by Tom Seaver on April 22, 1970. He tied his career high with 13 strikeouts and gave up three runs over 6 1/3 innings.

After giving up a lead-off single to Cameron Maybin, Harang struck out nine straight before Will Venable led off the top of the fourth with a home run.

The Dodgers took an 8-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth when they scored four runs, capped by Matt Kemp’s two-run blast off Clayton Richard. Kemp has hit three home runs this season, all against San Diego.

The Padres, who have scored 21 runs in their first eight games, struck out 18 times and left 14 runners on base. San Diego committed one error and leads the National League with 11 through eight games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Dodgers have beaten the Padres in 14 of their last 17 games. … Harang is the first Dodgers pitcher in the last 90 seasons to have at least 13 strikeouts and pitch fewer than seven innings. … Harang’s nine straight strikeouts broke the Dodgers’ 50-year-old record of eight consecutive strikeouts set by Johnny Podres against the Philadelphia Phillies in 1962. … Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully missed his fourth consecutive game because of illness
