Athletics 5, Mariners 2: Rookie Yoenis Cespedes homered to snap a tie in the eighth inning and Josh Reddick provided insurance with a two-run shot as host Oakland continued its push toward the postseason by sweeping Seattle.
With their 15th win in 20 home contests, the Athletics stayed within two games of Texas in the AL West while keeping a three-game lead over Los Angeles and Tampa Bay for the second wild card.
Oakland will host its final regular-season series versus the Rangers, who split with the Angels in their doubleheader Sunday and clinched a playoff berth.
Cespedes, who had an RBI triple among his three hits, greeted reliever Shawn Kelley (2-4) by launching a towering shot into the seats in left field for his 23rd homer. Reddick added his 32nd homer and third in four games to give the Athletics a 5-2 lead.
The blasts made a winner out of reliever Sean Doolittle (2-1), who struck out one in a scoreless inning. Grant Balfour retired the side in the ninth for his 22nd save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Kyle Seager and Justin Smoak had RBI singles in the third inning for the Mariners, who have dropped 10 of 13. ... Reddick recorded his 15th assist after he threw out Smoak at the plate in the second inning. The amount is the most by an Athletics outfielder since Mike Davis had 16 in 1983. ... Seattle failed to hit a home run for the first time in 19 games. The mark fell one shy of the club record, which was set in 1999.
