Mariners 5, Athletics 3: Brendan Ryan and Justin Smoak each had a home run and two RBIs, and Seattle continued its dominance against Oakland with its fifth win in seven meetings this season.

The game's first six runs came on home runs. Ryan's two-run shot in the second and Smoak's solo homer in the third gave Seattle a 3-0 lead until Eric Sogard tied it with a three-run blast in the fifth.

The Mariners quickly bounced back with two in the bottom of the fifth on Ichiro Suzuki's RBI double and Smoak's run-scoring groundout.

The rally earned starter Blake Beavan (1-1) his sixth career win. The 23-year-old right-hander struck out four and allowed three runs on six hits over seven innings.

Brandon League pitched around a one-out single in the ninth for his fourth save.

Oakland starter Graham Godfrey (0-2) allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits over five innings.
