Athletics 5, Angels 3:
Josh Reddick’s RBI double keyed a four-run eighth inning to lift Oakland to a road win over Los Angeles.

Cliff Pennington and Jemile Weeks began the decisive rally by drawing consecutive one-out walks against reliever Kevin Jepsen (0-1). Coco Crisp followed with a single to center field that tied it at 2-2, and Reddick put the Athletics on top with a ground-rule double to right field. After Dave Carpenter came on in relief of Jepsen, Cuban Yoenis Cespedes gave Oakland some breathing room with a two-run single.

Brian Fuentes (1-0) got the win after pitching a scoreless seventh inning for Oakland. Ryan Cook worked the ninth before turning it over to Grant Balfour, who picked up his third save despite allowing a solo home run to Vernon Wells.

Daric Barton put the Athletics in front with a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning, but the Angels tied it in the bottom of the inning and took the lead on Torii Hunter’s RBI single in the sixth.

Los Angeles starter Dan Haren scattered five hits over 6 2/3 innings, striking out two. Tyson Ross gave up two runs on seven hits in six innings of work for Oakland. He struck out three without a walk.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Oakland’s four runs in the eighth matched its total output from the previous 34 innings ... The Athletics have won 12 of their last 19 games against the Angels, including four straight started by Haren ... Reddick went 3-for-4, his first three-hit game since being acquired from Boston in the offseason.
