Dodgers 5, Cubs 1: Chris Capuano pitched seven shutout innings and added two RBIs as visiting Los Angeles snapped a two-game losing skid.

Capuano (4-0), who recorded his 1,000th career inning in the majors, struck out seven batters and allowed only three singles, helping the Dodgers pick up just the second win on their current six-game road trip which wraps up against the Cubs Sunday.

Los Angeles jumped out to a three-run lead in the second inning. Matt Treanor scored Andre Ethier on a sacrifice fly and Capuano helped his cause with a two-run, two-out double to deep right center.

Treanor led off the top of the fifth with a single and came around to score on Dee Gordon’s RBI double. Matt Kemp followed with a sacrifice fly, bringing in Gordon from third for his 27th RBI of the season.

The Cubs had a three-game winning streak over the Dodgers snapped and the two teams have split wins and losses in their last 10 outings.

Chris Volstad (0-4) failed to record a win for the 17th straight start, going back to July 2011. The right-hander went five innings, giving up five runs on four hits while walking three.

Shortstop Starlin Castro went 3-for-4 and scored Chicago’s lone run on Ian Stewart’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Castro made his eighth error of the year … Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly was tossed from the dugout for arguing calls in the fifth … Volstad started in place of Matt Garza, who is out with the flu and questionable for Sunday’s start … Los Angeles has not lost three straight this season.
