Braves 10, Yankees 5: Freddie Freeman hit the first of five home runs and Jason Heyward went deep twice as visiting Atlanta outslugged New York to take the rubber game.

Martin Prado and David Ross each hit solo homers and Dan Uggla singled in a run for the Braves, who had dropped seven of eight before bouncing back to take the final two games from the Yankees.

New York hit four home runs in the sweltering heat and humidity but could not overcome a rare poor effort from starter Phil Hughes in its first losing series of June.

Hughes (7-6) was off from the beginning, allowing three runs in the first when Uggla’s two-out single scored Michael Bourn and Freeman followed by belting his ninth homer into the bullpen in right-center.

Derek Jeter led off the Yankees' half of the first with a solo homer against Tommy Hanson but Prado went deep in the third and Heyward sent a high fastball off the facing of the second deck down the right field line in the fourth to push it to 5-1.

Hughes was pulled one batter after surrendering Ross’ home run in the fifth. He was charged with six runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Hanson (8-4) yielded a solo shot to Eric Chavez and was pulled after giving up back-to-back blasts to Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano in the sixth that cut it to 6-4.

The Braves put it away in the eighth, getting a run on Freeman’s groundout and two more on Heyward’s blast to right, his 10th of the year.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The nine combined home runs matched a major-league season high and marked the most ever in a game at the new Yankee Stadium. … Hughes’ poor outing ended a string of 19 straight games in which New York starters had pitched at least six innings. … New York almost had another home run in the fifth but Bourn leaped over the wall to snap Jayson Nix’s deep drive to right-center. … Atlanta continues its road trip at Boston on Friday while New York travels across town to close out interleague play at the Mets this weekend.
