Yankees 6, Orioles 2: Derek Jeter had four hits, including an RBI double in a three-run fourth inning, and visiting New York picked up its first victory of the season over previously undefeated Baltimore.

Ivan Nova (1-0) scattered 10 hits over seven strong innings for the Yankees, who moved to 1-3 and avoided their first 0-4 start since 1973. Nova struck out seven and walked none on 92 pitches.

New York jumped all over Baltimore starter Brian Matusz (0-1), who labored through four innings, giving up four runs on six hits and four walks on 96 pitches.

Most of the damage came in the fourth inning, where the Yankees bunched together three walks and two hits to plate three runs. Jeter’s double off the wall in right field scored Russell Martin and made it 4-1.

Andruw Jones tacked on another run for New York with a bomb to left field in the sixth inning, his first homer of the season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Orioles catcher Matt Wieters went 4-for-4, including a solo shot in the second that tied it at 1-1 … Baltimore fell to 3-1 and missed out on its second 4-0 start in as many seasons … Jeter, who had only five games with four or more hits in 2011, is now hitting .412 on the young season.
