Rafael Furcal drove in the only run with a single in the eighth inning and Chad Billingsley pitched eight shutout innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the visiting San Diego Padres 1-0 on Friday.

Javy Guerra worked out of a bases-loaded, none-out jam in the ninth for his third save. Guerra struck out Kyle Phillips and Will Venable, and retired Jason Bartlett on a liner to center.

Furcal’s ground single to right field off Mat Latos scored pinch-runner Trent Oletjen from third and gave Los Angeles its second straight shutout victory following a five-game losing streak.

Billingsley (8-7) gave up four hits and walked five, and constantly worked out of trouble. He struck out four.

Latos (5-10) didn’t allow a baserunner to reach second base until the eighth. He allowed five hits in 7 1/3 innings and struck out six.

San Diego had two on with one out in the eighth before Billingsley extinguished the threat by getting Ryan Ludwick to pop out and Orlando Hudson to ground out.

San Diego went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
