Yovani Gallardo restored order to Milwaukee’s pitching staff in his return from the disabled list with six shutout innings in the Brewers’ 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday.

Prince Fielder and Rickie Weeks both homered to supply the offense for Milwaukee, which salvaged a split of the four-game series.

In his first start since a strained right oblique shelved him on July 4, Gallardo (9-4) struck out five and walked one. The right-hander ran his season record against the Pirates to 3-0 and hasn’t allowed an earned run to them in 17 innings.

It was a drastic change from the previous two nights when the Pirates pounded Milwaukee pitching for 26 runs on 29 hits.

Fielder hit his 24th homer of the season in the fourth off Pittsburgh starter Ross Ohlendorf (1-8) and Rickie Weeks added his 19th in the seventh, a two-run shot off reliever Evan Meek that proved to be the game winner.

John Axford pitched 1 2/3 innings for his 13th save.

Neil Walker’s two-run double in the seventh was all the offense the Pirates could muster. Walker went 11-for-17 in the series with five RBIs, raising his average 36 points in four days to .320.
