Ryan Doumit hit a grand slam as part of a five-run ninth inning during Tuesday’s 7-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.
The win snapped the Pirates’ 22-game losing streak against Milwaukee at Miller Park and also broke their current seven-game losing streak.
Milwaukee closer Trevor Hoffman relieved starter Randy Wolf in the ninth inning and Ronny Cedeno promptly greeted him with a home run to tie it at 3-3. Five batters later, Doumit belted his game-winning slam off Hoffman (1-2).
Pittsburgh reliever Brendan Donnelly (2-0) picked up the win by retiring one batter in the eighth.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Akinori Iwamura’s sacrifice fly that plated Doumit. Jeff Clement belted a solo homer in the fourth inning to make it 2-1.
Brewers catcher George Kottaras led off the seventh inning with a homer to right field and Prince Fielder homered in the eighth to put the Brewers ahead, 3-2.
