Adrian Gonzalez and Will Venable hit home runs and left-hander Wade LeBlanc pitched six shutout innings as the San Diego Padres won their eighth consecutive game Saturday with a 5-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds.
LeBlanc (1-0) had another good outing filling in for Chris Young, who has been out since April 7 with tightness in his shoulder. The 25-year-old allowed three hits and two walks and struck out two to lower his ERA to 0.82.
Relievers Luke Gregerson and Edward Mujica finished off the shutout for San Diego. No player had more than one hit for the Reds, who have lost eight of their last 10.
The Padres continued to take advantage of the cozy confines of the Great American Ballpark as Gonzalez homered for the second day in a row, blasting a solo shot in the first to give San Diego the lead in its first at-bat. It was the fifth home run of the season for Gonzalez, who hit a grand slam in Friday's series opener.
Venable hit San Diego's second home run of the day, and its fourth of the series, in the sixth, launching a two-run shot to right for his fourth long ball to date.
All the Padres' damage was done against Reds starter Johnny Cueto (0-1), who allowed five runs on seven hits over six innings.
Yorvit Torrealba added a two-run double in the fourth for the Padres and Chase Headley went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.
