Pat Burrell belted a three-run homer and Tim Lincecum struck out 11 as the San Francisco Giants maintained their two-game lead in the NL West with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night.
Aubrey Huff singled and Buster Posey walked to start the fourth inning before Burrell blasted his 18th homer of the season to provide Lincecum with all the runs he would need.
Lincecum (16-10) allowed one run and six hits in seven innings as the Giants moved closer to eliminating the San Diego Padres from the division race. Lincecum walked four while winning for the fifth time in six starts in September.
Arizona’s Stephen Drew led off the game with a homer for the lone run against Lincecum.
Javier Lopez struck out two in the eighth inning and Brian Wilson worked out of a jam in the ninth for his 47th save.
The Diamondbacks put runners on first and third with one out before Wilson fanned Kelly Johnson and induced Chris Young to bounce out.
Diamondbacks starter Ian Kennedy (9-10) allowed three runs and five hits in five innings.
